The Megadeth Dilemma

Recently, I read a Reddit post about Megadeth’s Endgame. The author admitted the album was finally “clicking” with him, acknowledging the praise it has received over the years.

This got me thinking. I like Endgame. In fact, I enjoy most of the band’s output from that era leading up to our current self-titled releasebut I couldn’t name a single song off any of them. For a long-term fan, that’s a bit unsettling. If I can’t remember the music, how can I truly revisit it? I remember a time, back in my teens, when I would memorize every detail: sequential tracklists, release years, session musicians, and obscure record labels.

I suppose that level of devotion is a lost art; who has the time for it these days, anyway? To combat this mental fog and keep the later era of Megadeth front and center, I’m creating a playlist. It starts with Endgame and spans from 2000 to the present (we’ll tackle the “classic era” another time).

The rule for entry is simple: Do I actually want to hear this song again? I’m looking for the tracks that serve as the gateway back into the full album - personal singles, handpicked by me.

It sounds like a fun experiment. I’m calling it “The Megadeth Dilemma.”
